The Ocean Road adventure -- Day Two

This is Penny.  I wanted to clarify a post from yesterday.  When we toured Melbourne we were at the Yarra River, not the You River, or even the Yu River.  And it wasn't the Yangzee River (I'm not sure of the spelling, but you know what I mean, and it's a bit north of here).  We did drive near the Yu Yang Range today, but that's a different place.  So I just wanted to make this clear.

We can't post any pictures just now because we're staying at a hostel in Port Campbell, near the Twelve Apostles in the Southern Ocean.  But I can say that it's been a beautiful day, full of beautiful scenes and sounds.  I wish we could record the sounds of the waves, the wind, the birds -- the Magpies are amazing.  Timothy, David, Ben, and I left early early this morning to miss the morning rush hour out of Melbourne heading south westerly to the Ocean Road.  Moira needed to be at work so we were sorry she couldn't join us on this adventure but I did get a lovely picture of her and Timothy just after breakfast, which I'll post tomorrow.

We had a fun drive, it's been a beautiful sunny warm day.  We sighted five or six koalas in some trees (we'll post the pictures tomorrow) and heard them grunting in low deep sounds I'd never heard before.  Bright green parrots settled on our outstretched arms to eat the nuts and seeds we provided (more great pictures coming), and we caught sight of a porcupine-like (euchida?) critter near the road.  Timothy gave Ben a lesson in driving a stick shift and Ben did great under less than perfect conditions (a dirt road going up).  David and I were confined to the back seat and not allowed to comment during the instruction.  This was good.  Timothy is a great teacher and Uncle and this was a highlight for Ben, I'll let him talk about it tomorrow.

We made lots of stops a beaches and had an amazing seafood lunch in Lorne near the pier. We walked through a section of a rainforest that looked like a movie set from Disney. We are staying overnight in Port Campbell near the Twelve Apostles (actually there are only about Nine Apostles because the amazing rock formations are one by one falling into the sea), but we'll get to see them tomorrow, however many are still standing.

I'll stop here and we'll post more pictures and comments tomorrow after we get home.  Good night, all!

  1. Hello from Colorado!

Wow, that sounds like a beautiful place. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures. It's great to hear that things are going well and the weather sounds perfect. Can you put up a map of where you are?

Things are going well here, and I'm grateful for the daylight savings. Now there's an extra hour after work to head out into the outdoor playground that is Boulder. I just finished building a commuter bike and have been climbing outside between getting back on the road bike. Things are also moving forward in making a decision about grad school as well.

Keep enjoying all of the adventures there! Lots of love! Cheers (as they say there).
